EAU CLAIRE Wis. (WLAX/WEUX) – Riding the bus is about to get easier in Eau Claire with ‘tap and ride’ technology. The city announced it’s partnering with companies Masabi and Transloc to make buying bus fares easier.

Masabi and Transloc are bringing an account-based fare payment option to the buses. Under the new system, riders will have an account linked to a smartphone app or a card that gets scanned when entering and exiting a bus.

The system will automatically determine the cost of the fare, meaning no specific tickets will need to be purchased. Transit Manager Tom Wagener says this new system will help increase fare equity and accessibility for passengers.
