‘Reinstate the 48’, that’s the goal of state democrats who feel the 48-hour waiting period to buy a hand gun is necessary. Republicans got rid of the 48-hour waiting period to buy a handgun this past June, but state democrats are trying to reverse that law. Republicans say the 48-hours won’t change anything, and say the democrats proposing the bill are just looking for attention.
Rep. John Nygren: “I mean there is a lot of gun violence in our country but most of that revolves around people who already have guns illegally or people who have mental health issues, so I think we need to look to the root cause.”
Representative Dana Wachs is also among state democrats calling for the reinstatement of the gun waiting period.
