Equipment malfunction believed to be cause of Saturday Cornell fire

Local News

CORNELL, Wis. (WLAX/WEUX) – Dozens of firefighters spent Saturday afternoon battling a fire at a sawmill near Cornell.

Assistant Fire Chief Matt Boulding says 55 firefighters from seven different departments responded to the fire west of Cornell on County Highway E just south of County Highway Z.

He says it took about five hours to put out the fire, but no one was injured.

According to the fire department, the building is a total loss and three semi-trailers were also destroyed.

Boulding says it appears that a piece of equipment inside the sawmill malfunctioned and started a fire.
