Ex-pharmacist pleads guilty in COVID-19 vaccine tampering case

Local News

MILWAUKEE, Wis. (WLAX/WEUX) – A former pharmacist pleads guilty in federal court to charges he tried to spoil dozens of vials of COVID-19 vaccine.

Last month, federal prosecutors charged 46-year-old Steven Brandenburg. He’s accused of leaving 57 vials of the Moderna vaccine outside a refrigerator at advocate Aurora Health in Grafton, which is a suburb of Milwaukee.

The vials contained enough vaccine to inoculate more than 500 people. According to court filings, Brandenburg used his position as a third-shift pharmacist to remove the vials from the refrigerator undetected.

Brandenburg is set to make his next court appearance in March.
