Wis. (WLAX/WEUX) – The pandemic is causing major strains in the state’s foster care system
Lutheran Social Services provides foster care services in more than 30 counties.
The organization says it’s currently facing a great need for foster parents.
With more children than beds available… L-s-s is having to send some children out of the state for childcare.
One couple has fostered children for 15 years.
They say opening your home is about wanting to provide a safe place for children
Alissa Broughton, a foster parent said, “No matter if it’s just for a weekend or for the rest of their lives just it’s not as scary as it sounds and the paperwork looks like a lot, the classes look like a lot, but when it comes down to it, it really is just for the children.”
LSS offers resources to children in foster care as well as foster families to help ease the transition.
