Wis. (WLAX/WEUX) – Today the national average of gas hit a new record of four dollars and 46 cents per gallon. In Eau Claire, you’ll see prices around four dollars and 19 cents. In La Crosse, prices are just around 4 four dollars according to Gas Buddy.
The Russian invasion of Ukraine sent the gas price up earlier this year. Prices began rising again over the last few weeks as the odds of the European Union sanctioning Russian oil increased.
Now, consumers are left with no choice but to pay up if they want to drive.
“I feel lucky that I live in Wisconsin, but overall, pretty disappointed and upset because it does not need to be this high. I understand some inflation, but not this high. And like I said, we’re forced to pay this price because we have to get from a to b,” said Kai Ewers of Eau Claire,
Diesel also hit a record high of five dollars and 54 cents according to Triple A. With summer coming up, experts believe gas prices will continue to go up through Memorial Day.
Experts recommend planning ahead if you have any road trips planned.
