MADISON, Wis. (WFRV) – Governor Scott Walker has called a press conference tonight in Madison to announce he is dropping out of the 2016 presidential race.

Gov. Walker was one of the last Republicans to enter the race, waiting until Wisconsin wrapped up it’s budget.

The Governor ran on stripping union power, lowering taxes, passing pro-life legislation and more.

Before entering the race, Walker looked to be a serious competitor in Iowa. However, after entering the race his poll numbers dropped, and airtime at debates dwindled.

In the most recent CNN survey, Gov. Walker drew support nationally from less than one-half of one percent of Republican primary voters.

The news conference starts tonight at 5:00 at the Edgewater Hotel. Local 5 will carry it live.
