Green Bay Macaw Rescued From Tree as Storm Approaches

Local News

During the afternoon of the Fourth of July, first responders were out helping both people, and a parrot in Green Bay.

A macaw got loose from a home on Oneida Street and flew up into a tall tree where he stayed for about an hour.

As an ominous storm was approaching, the owner of the parrot, Mike Czyz, called first responders for assistance.

While the Green Bay Police guided traffic, a Green Bay Metro Fire Department ladder truck pulled up and allowed Mike Czyz to board the ladder and stand in the bucket raised up to the tree with a firefighter.

Czyz pulled his macaw, named Cece, to safety, about five minutes before the downpour started.

He said he is grateful for the first responders who helped him save his parrot.

“It felt good to know that they were willing to help someone in need, I told them a thousand times I can’t express how much I want to thank them for this,” Czyz said.
