LA CROSSE, Wis. (September 16, 2021) – Habitat for Humanity La Crosse Area is hosting a fundraiser to help rescue our Afghan Allies and their families who remain in Afghanistan. The event will be held on Saturday, September 25th from 11 am to 3 pm at the Onalaska American Legion.
After almost 30 years in the community, Habitat for Humanity knows that people in the La Crosse area have BIG HEARTS! Whenever there is a call for help, the community responds. So when Afghan refugees began arriving at Fort McCoy, the community sprang into action gathering hygiene products, clothing, support, and services for the displaced.
As the community was rallying, Habitat started hearing from members of their “Habitat for Heroes” Committee. Local veterans and active military members were growing increasingly worried about our Afghan allies and their families who remained in Afghanistan. These are people who risked their lives for our troops and now face death every day they remain in Afghanistan.
This fear is felt by military men and women across the United States. In response, the national non-profits No One Left Behind and Team America wereformed. Using their knowledge and hard work, these non-profits are working tirelessly to help Afghan allies and their families to safety.
Join “Habitat for Heroes” on September 25th to raise awareness and support for these two non-profits. Information about both programs will be available, and supporters will be on-hand to answer questions. While you’re there, grab lunch for $10 from BP Smokehouse. 100% of the money raised from the food sales will be donated. Habitat is asking community members to drop off donations at the event, as all monies raised will be donated equally between the two non-profits.
