CHIPPEWA VALLEY, Wis. (WLAX/WEUX) – Despite the rising costs to build, one group is still helping people get affordable housing.

In November, Habitat for Humanity in the Chippewa Valley set a goal of building 5 new homes and remodeling 10 existing houses this year.

The pandemic has created many obstacles for habitat as its worked toward that number.

Executive Director John Dawson says one of the biggest has been building materials.

“Now the pandemic has caused some problems on materials and on ordering materials and we couldn’t get electrical supplies sometimes, so we had to figure out how to get that. You can see on the house behind us the family is already in the house, but we are waiting on siding. You can’t get siding. You can’t get it in most colors,” said Dawson.

Dawson says to stay on track, they’ve made some changes like how their future home owners fund the project. They’ve also benefitted from major donations.
