LA CROSSE Wis. (WLAX/WEUX) – Health care workers in the Coulee Region are showing their support for sexual assault victims through a national campaign. The month of April is designated as Sexual Assault Awareness Month in the US.

Gundersen health system is reaching out to the La Crosse community about the resources available to victims. The hospital’s sexual assault program provides confidential crisis support to anyone who needs help.

“This is never the fault of the victim, they have never done anything to bring this on themselves, it is completely a choice that has been made by the person who perpetrated the crime, and that the person who was victimized did nothing to bring this on themselves,” said Gundersen Victim Advocate Chelsey Senn.

Gundersen works with each victim on a personalized safety plan. The health system also helps navigate the legal system. Anyone who’s a victim of sexual assault is urged to call Gundersen’s 24-hour crisis line.
