Highlights from Biden’s first address to joint session of Congress

Local News

(WLAX/WEUX) – With almost 100 days in office, the president outlined some of his accomplishments tonight in a joint address to congress.

The house chamber looked vastly different from years past due to coronavirus restrictions. Many lawmakers watched from home or their offices, with only about 200 people in-person.

Biden touted his accomplishments, like the COVID-19 Relief Bill, over 200 million doses of the vaccine administered, the American Rescue Plan, his infrastructure bill, the American jobs plan and a new American Families Plan, a 1.8 trillion-dollar spending package aimed at childcare and education.

However, members of the GOP have blasted President Biden’s proposals, and say he hasn’t done much to unify the country.

Senator Tim Scott will give the rebuttal to lay out republican priorities.
