Holiday Meals Away from Home

Local News

Today was a time many people spent gathering with friends and family.  While most places are closed for the Christmas holiday, Fox 25/48’s Neil Hebert talked with the local Altoona Family Restaurant who chose to open their doors on Christmas Day.

When some think of Christmas, it may be sitting at the dinner table with family and having a home cooked meal but for others, that’s not the case.  The Altoona Family Restaurant is open for that reason.

Santa, North Pole:  “A lot of them don’t have places to go. a lot of them want to bring their friends. it’s just fun because you get to see your friends here every day. I’m telling you, you get food, you get good service and the people are happy. Ho Ho Ho!  Merry Christmas everybody!”

But what about for those working on Christmas?. . .you get to hang out with all of your coworkers too.

Pamela Mahowald (jokingly):  “Well that’s not always so nice.”  She says everyone that comes in makes working the holiday more enjoyable.  “People are all just so friendly and have a lot of Christmas cheer around this time of the year always.  They’re very nice and it’s always nice to see happy, smiling faces because it makes Christmas all the more better.”   Giving the customers a nice place to relax and have a nice meal for Christmas is something she enjoys doing. “It means really a lot working on Christmas because it gives people the opportunity to come and enjoy dinner or breakfast with their families and get to spend some time together and hang out in a quiet and comfortable atmosphere.”

Some people come from out of state to visit family and friends and the reason they are out to eat might be because no one is cooking at home.

Eating out on Christmas,  enjoying some great food hasn’t hurt the family who is visiting from Missouri for Christmas.

Kim Docummun, Restaurant Guest:  “It’s just great that they come up for Christmas.  We all get together and it was a very nice Christmas this year.
