TOMAH, Wis. (WLAX/WEUX) – The US Department of Veterans Affairs is offering new disability exams to hundreds of veterans.
VA officials say Secretary Denis McDonough determined the exams will be for 649 veterans whose benefits may have been negatively impacted by exams from Dr. Mary Jo Lanska, a former neurologist at the Tomah VA Medical Center. Dr. Lanska was accused of misdiagnosing veterans. McDonough confirmed earlier this year that she was let go.
The v-a says the new exams will help re-adjudicate the original claims filed by the group of veterans. They could also be eligible for years of benefits backdated to their original effective date.
