COLFAX Wis. (WLAX/WEUX) – A bald eagle found shot near Colfax earlier this year is recovering and is beginning to fly and exercise. That’s according to a Facebook post from the Raptor Education Group.
In early April, the female bird was found in a ditch in the Chippewa County town of Cooks Valley near Colfax. When taken into the Raptor Group in Antigo, she was described as in critical condition, with more than 20 lead pellets in her body.
After being treated for a month, the Raptor Group says she is well on her way to a full recovery. Travis Hakes, who helped locate the eagle, told us last week the DNR is investigating the shooting, and a reward fund has reached more than 18-thousand dollars.
