Local kids were working up a sweat in the “Kids of Steel Triathlon” today in Eau Claire. Kid’s ages 5 to 12 swam laps in the YMCA pool, ran to Owen Park, and then biked part of the Chippewa River state trail.
More than 80 kids participated in this year’s race. All kids received a triathlon t-shirt, medallion and water bottle. One lucky kid won a new bike after the race. Volunteers from memorial high school’s national honor society, UW-Eau Claire triathlon club, Sam’s Club and Kohl’s were at the event.
The goal is really to let the kids have fun, to be active in the community, and to maybe try something out that they’ve never done before. The Kids of Steel Triathlon has been going on for more than 20 years and takes place every year at the end of September.
