HOLMEN Wis. (WLAX/WEUX) – Kwik Trip is expanding its footprint across the Midwest. The 400th Kwik Trip store opened in Minnesota in 2013, and less than 10 years later, that number has doubled.
Living in Wisconsin, it may seem like there’s a million Kwik Trip stores all across the state. The actual number isn’t quite that high, but it is still pretty impressive, as this new location in Holmen marks the 800th Kwik Trip store that can be found across Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa, and Minnesota.
Store leader Alyssa Zimmerman said, “Our main goal is to provide the best customer service possible by exceeding our guests’ expectations, as well as providing a clean and fully stocked location.”
The first Kwik Trip store opened in Eau Claire back in 1965. The company hit 50 locations in 1983, 100 in 1986, and added 700 more stores over the next 35 years. Steve Wrobel believes Kwik Trip has grown so rapidly because it’s more than just a gas station.
“We’re that corner grocery store, we have a total meal solution. People on their drive home who need something, this time of year when it’s cold outside, who wants to make food at home or go to the extra shop,” said Wrobel.
More than 32,000 people work for Kwik Trip, and 40 percent of the company’s pre-tax profits are shared with those employees. Kwik Trip is not stopping at 800, as Wrobel says there are 50 more stores and an expansion into Michigan planned over the next year. District leader Ben Wilson also credits Kwik Trip’s workplace culture for its success, with all employees working towards the same goal.
District leader Ben Wilson said, “Our mission is to serve our customers and community more effectively than anyone else by treating our customers, coworkers, and suppliers as we personally would like to be treated, and to make a difference in someone’s life.” More than half of Kwik Trip’s 800 stores are located throughout Wisconsin. The 800th store is located just north of Holmen at the interchange of highways 53 and 35 and is nearly 9-thousand square feet in size.
