La Crosse Lighthouse receives funding for peer-run respite facility

Local News

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WLAX/WEUX) – Additional treatment options will soon be available to those suffering from mental health and substance abuse issues in La Crosse.

La Crosse Lighthouse has been awarded a grant from the Wisconsin DHS to begin a peer-run respite.

Peer-run respites are short-term stay facilities staffed by people who have gone through similar life difficulties.

Scott Mihalovic of La Crosse Lighthouse said, “Peers working with people who are struggling and suffering from mental illness and addiction do the best job to be able to help people begin their own recovery.”

La Crosse Lighthouse is searching for a three-to-five-bedroom home to use as its facility.

The hope is to have the respite open no later than October.
