The city of La Crosse just took a big step toward the future, creating its first smart phone app. Fox 25/48’s Erin O’Brien explains how it’s a one stop shop for city services.
People in La Crosse have much more power at their fingertips now thanks to a new mobile app from the city’s information technology department.
“The navigation on the old website was difficult. Users trying to find information, couldn’t find it, so we tried to streamline the way citizens can find information.”
The app, called My LaX, allows users to find parks with specific amenities, locate points of interest based on their location, and lookup bus routes. Residents of the city can also look up their garbage pickup information and submit service requests.
“If you’re standing on a pothole and you want to report that, this’ll tell you right where you’re at.”
The city also just re-designed their website, cityoflacrosse.org, hoping to make it easier to use.
By creating an account, residents can keep track of the service requests they make both on the website on the mobile app.
It took the city ten months and $60,000 to build the new website and smartphone app. They say they hope people here take full advantage of what both have to offer.
And it’s also keeping La Crosse in line with other cities embracing technology.
“I do believe cities are moving more toward the mobile generation of things. Everyone has one of these. Everywhere you go you see people are pulling these out and they have things at their fingertips. So they want everything now.”
