LA CROSSE, Wis. (WLAX/WEUX) – One of La Crosse’s public libraries will be closing its doors in less than two months. La Crosse Public Library Officials say due to a budget reduction of more than $ 100 thousand, the South Community Library on 16th Street South will be permanently closing on December 1st.
The La Crosse Public Library Board made the decision due to continued financial challenges, including a 2 percent reduction by the city of La Crosse. Officials say it was either eliminate staff positions, along with essential programming and services, or eliminate at least one service location. After December 1st, there will be two public libraries in La Crosse.
