Local businesses can still require masks despite no mandate

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WLAX/WEUX) – Eau Claire County doesn’t have a mask mandate anymore. So now it’s up to private businesses to establish their own rules.

First News at Nine spoke with several area businesses today about their plans… Some say they’ll still require masks. Others are already letting people in maskless.

However, if a business requires you to mask up, staff can ask you to leave if you’re not wearing one.

Ofc. Timothy Peterson Altoona Police Department said,” If you do not leave, then technically you are trespassing. At that point, police can be notified to come handle a trespassing complaint.”

Peterson says Altoona Police have had to deal with some trespassing incidents over the past few months.
