UW-Eau Claire has canceled face-to face classes for three weeks.

The announcement came on Thursday. UWEC Chancellor Jim Schmidt said the cancellations go into effect the end of the day Friday.

According to Schmidt, currently scheduled online classes will continue.

He says all students will have the opportunity to complete the spring term.

Schmidt said the university will remain open for now, and employees will be asked to work.

However, events being held on campus will be limited to 25 people.

The Viennese Ball will not take place this year.

Director of Athletics at UW-Eau Claire Dan Schumacher said all winter and spring sporting events, including practices are canceled.

Chancellor Schmidt said the university will continue to evaluate the situation.
