Man dies after an officer-involved incident earlier this month

Local News

Wis. (WLAX/WEUX) – The man at the center of an officer-involved incident earlier this month in Altoona has died. 43-year-old Demetrio Jackson died Friday.

He was taken to a hospital early October 8th after authorities responded to reports of a man acting strange and causing damage while standing on a vehicle just before 3:30 am near the back parking lot of our building.

Altoona police, Eau Claire police, and the Eau Claire County sheriff’s office responded, and released more information today, including this video.

Officers attempted to take Jackson into custody for a probation hold, but he resisted.

He then ran from law enforcement before turning towards an officer and charging.

At that point, a taser was used three times as he continued to resist.

Jackson complained he was having trouble breathing, and emergency medical service was requested.

A provisional autopsy shows Jackson’s cause of death doesn’t appear to be from traumatic injuries and is still pending laboratory analysis. Per department protocol, the DCI is leading the investigation, which is ongoing.
