MENOMONIE Wis. (WLAX/WEUX) – The Menomonie Police Department is releasing more details on an officer-involved shooting from earlier this month. Chief Eric Atkinson says on the evening of January 21st, a man, who has not been identified, broke into a home, threatened to kill the person who lived there, and fired a gun toward the victim.
The victim was not hurt. Atkinson says the suspect then took the victim’s car and was later pulled over on the city’s south side. Officers shot the suspect during the stop. Crews attempted first aid but were unsuccessful in saving his life.
“Investigation into this home invasion is still active. Now as the police chief of the Menomonie police department, I requested the Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation to conduct a thorough investigation of the officer-involved shooting.”
Chief Atkinson did not specify what led officers to shoot the suspect. The four officers involved were placed on administrative leave.
