OSSDEO, Wis. (WLAX/WEUX) – The Osseo Fairchild School District has a program helping ensure all kids in the school district feel appreciated and welcome in school but they’re looking for some more help.
For 5 years the Osseo Fairchild School District has had a Community Mentor Program. A student who could use some extra attention is paired with a mentor for the school year. Once a week for around a half hour during the school year. Mentors spend time with the student.
They might play cards, do a puzzle, go outside with them at recess, or just talk, all with the intention of giving them another role model in their life. Staff with the school district say it’s something the kids in the program really enjoy. Osseo-Fairchild second-grade teacher, Sue Fischer, says, “You can tell how much they look forward to their mentor coming in and spending time with them. We hope to we hope that it will also increase attendance, participation here at school, just feeling more like they fit in here at school.”
Anyone interested in becoming a mentor is asked to reach out to the Osseo-Fairchild School District.
