EAU CLAIRE Wis. (WLAX/WEUX) – The Micon Theater in downtown Eau Claire says it will begin playing new movies on its screens for the first time in 30 years. The theater will reopen as a first-run theater on May 27th with the release of the movie Top Gun.

According to owner Mike Olson, with downtown Eau Claire growing and expanding, more people can bike, walk, or take the bus to the theater.

The downtown cinema was considered a second-run theater since it was reopened in October of 1993. It was purchased by Micon Cinemas in 2010 who continued operating it as a second-run theater.

The theater will reopen with a ribbon-cutting on the 27th and will be offering free popcorn during Memorial Day weekend.
