Milwaukee Bucks bring city economic boost

Local News

MILWAUKEE, Wis. (WLAX/WEUX) – The Bucks gains on the court are leading to major gains for downtown Milwaukee.

The NBA Finals, both home and away games, are expected to draw more crowds than ever before.

This boost to tourism and business is much needed for the city after Milwaukee missed out on possibly millions of dollars when the democratic national convention didn’t materialize as expected.

Now, Visit Milwaukee says, with the thousands of fans packing the deer district, businesses are making that money back.

Tim Smith, Managing Director of The Pfister hotel said, “Just like the bucks are in the playoffs, we feel that as a hotel staff we are in the playoffs too. If the DNC was the low point, this is definitely the high point for us. Milwaukee is in the international spotlight for the next week or ten days and this is just our chance to shine.”

Claire Koeni Communications Director of Visit Milwaukee said, “We’re recapturing some of that media spotlight that we lost. We were anticipating billions of eyeballs on Milwaukee during the DNC.”

According to ‘Visit Milwaukee’ each home game of the playoffs has brought the city more than three million dollars
