TOMAH, Wis. (WLAX/WEUX) – A former Monroe County Detective is charged following the death of a K-9 in May. According to a criminal complaint, 29-year-old Alexander Maas of Tomah is charged with Mistreating Animals.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s office says Maas was placed on administrative leave after K-9 Kolt died of a heat-related injury. He later resigned his position.
An investigation was conducted by the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office, which determined Kolt had been left inside Maas’ vehicle for approximately four hours on May 10th. The temperature outside had been 81 degrees, and the windows of the vehicle were left up.
A court appearance is scheduled for October 9th.
