LA CROSSE Wisc. (WLAX/WEUX) – We’re just a few weeks away from Christmas, the busiest time of the year for Santa and Mrs. Claus. Even though they have plenty of work to do to get ready for the holiday, they’re still making time to visit with kids in downtown La Crosse.

“When you spend the whole year making toys for boys and girls, but you don’t really get to see the boys and girls, it gets kind of lonesome, so we’re here in La Crosse, using this opportunity to see boys and girls and see their smiles,” said Santa Claus.

Mr. And Mrs. Claus can be found in the window of the Duluth Trading store every Thursday through Sunday until the 23rd. If you can’t make it to see them, there are other ways to tell Santa what you want for Christmas.

“We can’t connect with every child, and we don’t hear very well through this glass. It’s really great when you can write a letter to Santa and mail it and let him know what it is you’re hoping to get for Christmas,” said Mr. and Mrs. Claus.

After writing that letter, there’s no need to address it to the North Pole, it can be sent right to the La Crosse Parks and Rec department.

Administrative coordinator Kate Kroll said, “The La Crosse parks department has been collecting letters for Santa for over 25 years, so a very long time. The children can email and handwrite letters, they get them to us, and then we send them on their way to Santa so that he can respond to everybody.”

Kroll says some kids couldn’t wait to get their letters to Santa.

“We actually got our first letter in October. At the end of October before Halloween, so things have been trickling in, every day we’re getting letters, and we’re piling them up, and we’re sending them on their way,” said Kroll.

Santa is keeping his list and checking it twice and is ready to fill up the tree with presents.

“It’s really easy to get back on the good list, all you have to do is not lie about it, and then apologize, and then don’t do it again, and you’re right back on the good list,” said Kroll.

The Parks and Rec Department is asking all letters to Santa be sent by Friday. The next chance to see Santa at Duluth Trading Company is this Thursday from three until eight pm. Letters to the Parks Department need to be postmarked by Friday.
