CHIPPEWA FALLS, Wis. (WLAX/WEUX) – The Chippewa Falls Police Department and the family support center team up to begin a new domestic abuse protocol aiming to save lives.

The goal of the Lethal Assessment Protocol or LAP is to connect abuse victims of high risk with outreach services as soon as possible. Screening includes a series of eleven yes or no questions posed to assess if immediate advocacy is needed. The program director at the family support center says the program uses consistent language.

Family Support Center Program Director, Jeni, H. said, “To help them really see how scary and how real the risk factors are because a lot of people who are in long term domestic violence relationships, the violence is so normalized that what is happening doesn’t always seem like it’s a safety factor anymore.”

The family support center is hosting virtual events to discuss domestic violence prevention all month long.
