A Lake Hallie police officer involved in a deadly shooting at Walmart last month, will not be charged.

Chippewa County district attorney Steve Gibbs says officer Adam Meyers acted in self-defense when he shot and killed a woman at a Walmart last month.

In his charging decision, Gibbs says the death of Abbott was a tragic incident but evidence and analysis shows that deadly force was justified.

The shooting happened on April 8th, at the Lake Hallie Walmart. Investigators say Abbott had armed herself with a hatchet, while inside the store. Meyers and witnesses say Abbott refused to drop the hatchet and Meyers shot her twice. She later died.

The Chippewa County sheriff says Abbott had cognitive disabilities.

According to the charging decision, Abbott wrote, in her journal, about wanting to be involved in a shootout with police.
