EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WLAX/WEUX) – As tourism season approaches, the hospitality industry is worried it won’t have enough workers to meet demand.
In Eau Claire County, tourism makes up more than 46 hundred jobs. When the pandemic hit, restaurants and hotels had to scale back.
Now as the industry is recovering, they’re hiring again.
The problem: there’s no one to fill those positions.
Benny Anderson the Executive Director of Visit Eau Claire says this may impact service.
“We’re going to modify our operations, we’re going to modify our hours, we’re going to find different ways to deal with that. I think we’ll see some restaurants that will keep that kind of outdoor dining/ to go model a little bit and that will probably continue throughout the year,” said Anderson.
Anderson says when schools let out for the summer, teenagers may be able to fill in some of the needs for the hospitality industry.
