CHIPPEWA COUNTY Wisc. (WLAX/WEUX) – A Chippewa County deputy was justified when he shot and killed a man during a traffic stop in October. That’s the decision released today by the county’s District Attorney’s office.

On October 8th, sergeant Martin Folczyk pulled over a moped driven by Lance Stelzer. Another deputy was called to assist. During the stop, investigators say Stelzer started spraying the deputies with wasp spray.

The deputies managed to get away, but Stelzer charged sergeant Folczyk spraying him in the eyes repeatedly and backing him into a fence. It was then Folcyzk shot Stelzer.

The DA investigation concluded the deputy acted in reasonable self-defense, and no charges will be filed against Folcyzk.
