MINNEAPOLIS, Min. (WLAX/WEUX) – The last Minneapolis Police Officer charged in the fatal arrest of George Floyd was sentenced. A judge sentenced former Minneapolis Police Officer Tou Thao to almost 5 years in prison.

Thao is charged with aiding and abetting second-degree manslaughter in the fatal arrest of George Floyd in May 2020. He is already serving three to five years on federal charges for violating Floyd’s civil rights during the arrest. He was convicted in February 2022 and sentenced last July.

During today’s sentencing, the judge said he expected more remorse and regret from the former officer. Adding Thao was a… “Senior officer who was in the best position to save George Floyd.”
