Onalaska Police Department to receive children’s books and back- packs thanks to the La Crosse community foundation

Local News

The Onalaska Police Department will be receiving 17 “REACH BAGs” courtesy of REACH-A-Child and thanks to a generous grant from the Barbara and Dave Erickson Fund within the La Crosse Community Foundation.

A “REACH BAG” is a durable backpack filled with new children’s books and draw- string backpacks. First Responders across Wisconsin use books from a REACH BAG to comfort children they encounter in crisis situations. The books also serve to distract the child from the source of the trauma.

The delivery will take place at the Police Department (415 Main Street) on Monday, September 27 at noon.

The children’s books and backpacks are being delivered by REACH-A-Child, a Madi- son-based nonprofit which has been providing these resources to First Responders in Wisconsin since 2007. The grant from the La Crosse Community Foundation has en- abled REACH-A-Child to acquire hundreds of new books and backpacks for the De- partment.

REACH-A-Child currently serves over 220 First Responder Departments in the state, and distributes in excess of 20,000 new children’s books to that network annually.
