GREEN BAY, Wis. (WLAX/WEUX) – It was a rowdy day at Lambeau Field Sunday as the packers welcomed back their first full capacity crowd since January of 2020.
As the team took the field for the first preseason game, over seventy-two thousand fans were there to greet them, something they haven’t been able to do for almost 2 years.
Fans say they’ve missed tailgating outside of Lambeau, cooking out, playing games, and are more than ready to get back to doing what they love most.
Green Bay businesses are also benefiting from the crowds flooding into town– providing an economic boost.
Packers fan Sam Medo said, “We were around Lambeau, last year was unfortunate that the limited capacity, no fans, but it feels good to be back here, full-capacity, it’s been a long couple of years but we’re back, we’re back.”
Dave Soda, Packers fan said, “I think it feels good for a lot of people that have been missing going to these games and I’m sure the players love it to have the fans back in the stands.”
Mike Blunk, said, “This is the first time as a season ticket holder, 29 year wait, but it was well worth it.”
“It’s great to be back, it feels like home, you know, Lambeau is our home,” said George French.
Overall, fans and the team say they are excited for a long season ahead with full-capacity crowds.
