Pandemic Pen Pals: Chippewa Falls Middle School students write letters to Chippewa Manor residents

Local News

CHIPPEWA FALLS, Wis. (WLAX/WEUX) – Friendships are being made in Chippewa Falls, between some of the oldest residents, and young teens.

With visitation still extremely limited at assisted living facilities, Chippewa Falls Middle School students are writing letters back and forth with those who have been isolated for months now at Chippewa Manor.

The pen pal program has brought joy to the seniors at the assisted living home every single week. The teacher who came up with the idea says it’s been a great opportunity for both the students and residents.

Karen Park said, “Reading the letters they smile or get a twinkle in their eye and they will share about the letters during the week so it’s a positive impact and with the letters being ongoing it really shows that they’re really thought about and cared about.”

An eighth-grader we spoke with today who’s been a part of the pen pal program says she plans to continue delivering letters on her own, even after the program ends.
