Person of Interest Arrested in Jacob Wetterling Case

Local News

A Minnesota man is a ‘person of interest’ in the 1989 abduction of Jacob Wetterling. Federal authorities said today in a news conference that 52 year old Daniel Heinrich of Annandale was arrested yesterday on several child pornography charges.

An application for a search warrant in that case says that authorities wanted to search for items including human remains, a red t-shirt with the name Wetterling on the back and a red hockey team jacket with the name Jacob on the front.

FBI Special Agent Rick Thornton: “Tire impressions and show prints were labeled consistent with known samples. It often takes a unique mark on a tire impression, something of cut, or a similar thing on a shoe to say that it’s an absolute match.”

Wetterling was 11 when he was abducted October 22nd 1989, near his home in the central Minnesota community of St. Joseph.
