President Biden blames GOP Senators for blocking efforts to raise debt ceiling

WASHINGTON, D.C (WLAX/WEUX) – President Joe Biden slammed members of the Republican Party for refusing to raise the debt ceiling, delivering remarks at the white house today.

The U.S is two weeks away from being unable to pay its debts for the first time in its history.

The Commander in Chief blamed Senate GOP members for twice blocking democrats from raising the debt ceiling in voting last week.

Biden says: “Raising the debt limit is about paying off our old debts. There’s nothing to do with any new spending being considered. There’s nothing to do with my plan for infrastructure or building back better zero, zero. Both of which I might add are paid for. So if we’re going to make good on what’s already been approved by previous congresses and previous presidents and parties, we have pay for it.”

Republicans argue that democratic lawmakers should raise the debt ceiling on their own through a budget process known as reconciliation.

Congress has until October 18th to raise the country’s borrowing limit.
