ALTOONA, Wis. (WLAX/WEUX) – Prevea Health is teaming up with the Altoona Parks and Recreation Department to incentivize getting active.

The Chippewa Valley Parks Prescription Program aims to combat childhood obesity through exercise. The program started in Green Bay and is making its way to the Chippewa Valley.

According to the data resource center for child and adolescent health, about 30 percent of Wisconsin youth are considered obese.

Dr. Allison Schneider, an Altoona Prevea Pediatrician says exercise plays a vital role in the overall health of kids and adults.

Schneider said, “We have our little parks RX forms with some suggestions for activities that kids, and families can do. People that come in with complaints of poor sleep, maybe concerns of depression, anxiety ADHD, all of these problems can be improved with the addition of exercise.”

After filling out an activity log, you can drop it off at the Altoona Prevea Medical Office building or the Parks & Rec Office for a chance to win prizes.
