Refugees start arriving at Fort McCoy

MONROE COUNTY, Wis. (WLAX/WEUX) – Refugees from Afghanistan are beginning to arrive in Wisconsin.

These images show the facilities prepared to welcome refugees at Fort McCoy in Monroe County.

According to officials at Fort Mccoy. People began arriving this afternoon and more are expected over the next few days.

Those arriving include special immigrant visa applicants. Their families and others at risk.

The U.S. Army and army reserve brought in about a thousand service members to Fort McCoy.

The task force will provide housing, medical, logistics and transportation support.

President Biden says all refugees arriving in America. Who are not U.S. citizens? Will go through a security screening and background check.
