Wis. (WLAX/WEUX) – The first payments in the Biden Administration’s enhanced child tax credits are due to start rolling out this week.
Representative Ron Kind visited Ramone’s Ice Cream Parlor in Eau Claire to discuss the child tax credit.
The child tax credit, which was expanded and made monthly due to the American Rescue Plan will give most families in the state a new tax credit of $300 per month per child through the end of the year.
Kind admits the cost of childcare has made it a challenge in re-integrating workers into the workforce.
Kind said, “One of the major impediments to that is affordable, quality childcare. The expense of childcare right now is really out of hand right now. And we’re hoping with this fully refundable tax credit that will help with those expenses that families face too. And that will enable more people to rejoin the workforce. It’s one of the biggest issues that i hear from businesses large and small. Where are the workers that I need to hire now emerging from the pandemic? We hope this will help alleviate that concern as well.”
First News at Nine received a statement from the republican party of Wisconsin saying – quote: “Tony Evers opposed Governor Walker’s child tax credit in 2018 and Ron Kind voted against president trump’s tax cuts and jobs act, which doubled the child tax credit – but now, Democrats are bragging about a similar proposal from Joe Biden. Democrats should take Evers’ advice from 2018 – flip-flopping is a bad re-election strategy.”
