Restoration crews and insurance companies get to work following Wisconsin storms

Local News

Wis. (WLAX/WEUX) – Flooded basements and homes from this weekend’s heavy rainfall means a busy Monday for restoration companies and insurance agencies.

The Wisconsin office of the commissioner of insurance says just one inch of floodwater can mean up to twenty-five thousand dollars in damages. American Family Insurance agent Dan Flynn says it has been a busy day of filing claims and answering questions from families who experienced flooding over the weekend.

“People are asking whether their homeowner policy will cover pooled up rainwater or flood and for 95 percent of the people the answer is no because flood is a specific coverage that needs to be purchased by FEMA on a FEMA policy,” said Flynn.

The Wisconsin Office of the Commissioner of Insurance says there are insurance plan options through FEMA available for both renters to only cover the contents of the home as well as homeowners.
