Wis. (WLAX/WEUX) – Worries over financial issues related to scams may have some banks dropping a popular payment app. A wall street journal report says community and small banks could end up dropping Zelle, an instant- payment app.

Zelle, which is owned by seven large bank organizations, is trying to standardize a refund plan for scammed customers, but a community bank-related official says that may hurt smaller banks with a smaller margin for payback.

Customizing Zelle or adding fraud alerts or warnings isn’t easy for small banks. Financial institutions are legally required to reimburse customers for “bad actor” situations.
