NELSON, Wis. (WLAX/WEUX) – A man is dead after the semi-truck he was in crashed and burst into flames. The Buffalo County Sheriff’s office says just after 5 p.m. Tuesday, they responded to a call for a crash on Highway 25 in the town of Nelson.
When crews arrived, they found a semi-tractor and trailer were on their side, and the tractor was on fire. First responders were able to put out the fire, however, the 63-year-old driver was found dead inside. An investigation showed the semi was driving on the highway when it went into the opposite ditch and struck an embankment for a driveway causing it to roll over.
Witnesses say the semi caught fire shortly after it rolled over with the driver inside. The semi was carrying five thousand gallons of manure which spilled onto the highway, causing the road to be shut down for 5 hours.
