BAY VIEW, Wis. (WLAX/WEUX) – The United Auto Workers were on strike for 44 days before reaching a deal. Now that deal has come with a cost in Wisconsin at the Stellantis Plant in Bay View. Stellantis says in order to raise wages for union workers, they are merging plants in Wisconsin and Illinois. The Milwaukee plant will merge with the plant in Belvidere, Illinois.

Milwaukee Mayor, Cavalier Johnson, says, “That plant had been here for a long time and will leave a void down in the Bay View neighborhood. Which is sad but I think, because the plant is as massive as it was, I think, presents opportunities for us to look forward to as well.”

About 100 workers were on strike in Milwaukee. It is still unclear how many of them will be out of a job, able to retire early, or able to transfer to the Belvidere production plant.
