Wisconsin state Supreme Court justice Patrick Crooks died this afternoon at the Capitol.
Last week the 77-year-old former Brown County judge announced he would not seek re-election for a third term this spring.
Crooks was first appointed to the Brown County court in 1977, later winning election to the state’s Supreme Court in 1996.
Governor Walker has the power to appoint someone to fill Crooks’ seat ahead of the election. Walker’s spokesperson said today the governor will decide what to do at a more appropriate time.
