(WLAX/WEUX) – People taking firefighting classes at the Chippewa Valley Technical College are getting a new type of hands-on training.
CVTC’s fire and EMS program are adding a virtual reality simulation to its classes.
Students can feel the heat from the fire, practice switching between water and foam, and more.
Mark Schwartz says there are different scenarios students can experience as well.
“We can do anything from a Boeing 737 fire to something in a national park, on a submarine to practice like navy firefighters, or just residential fires, car fires, and as they develop new stuff, we’ll be able to download it and incorporate it”
Schwartz says the virtual reality simulator could become a part of firefighting training when the new semester starts in January.
