EAU CLAIRE Wisc. (WLAX/WEUX) – Confusion over a social media post led to safety concerns at one high school in Eau Claire yesterday. High school students shared threats they saw on Snapchat in a group on that same social media platform meant for students of North high school in Eau Claire.

After administrators and police officers investigated the original post, they discovered the threats targeted a different school with the same name: North High School in Sheboygan.

Principal of North High School, Kurt Madsen, said, “We had two students identify an issue, go to their parents and help us identify what the issue was. That was the biggest part of this whole thing. That’s what I think students need to understand about this whole thing rather than post a rumor, try to find more information about the rumor, ask an adult what they think about it.”

Administrators do encourage students to report anything they see on social media that is concerning to a trusted adult or school official. Students can also make an anonymous report through Speak Up Speak Out Wisconsin.
