Town of Washington residents oppose proposed development

Local News

WASHINGTON, Wis. (WLAX/WEUX) – Town of Washington residents are hoping to stop a proposed development near Lowes Creek.

The proposed Orchard Hills development calls for building 116 new homes and 5 new roads near County Road Double-I and Mischler Road.

Residents fear the development would add too much traffic to the area, creating safety concerns. However, their biggest concern is adding 116 homes that could change their county’s way of life.

Jenny Gullicksrud, Town of Washington resident said, “I think the biggest concern we are thinking about is the population size, the increase in that, and our freedom to move about.”

The Eau Claire County planning and development board is recommending the development moves forward. It is part of the town’s comprehensive plan.

The Town of Washington board of supervisors is scheduled to vote on the issue at Thursday’s meeting.

The Eau Claire County board also has to sign off on the development.
